Crepe fabric is one of the most used fabrics for dressmaking and party fashion and also casual fashion, due to its perfect fit and great variation in textures and thickness. Plain or printed, there are several types of crepe such as Crepe Bubble, Crepe Dior, Crepe Nuage, Crepe Lorraine, Crepe Pasquale, being produced with different types of fiber and highly twisted threads, such as silk or wool (organic and synthetic). But after all, what is crepe?

Crepe is a type of fabric for all types of creations

The term Crepe comes from the French “crêpe”, which means “curly”. Being light and grainy fabric, that is, with small undulations, it has at the same time a great diversity of thicknesses and textures, from the curliest, textured, to the most smooth, uniform.

Due to its great variety, it ends up being an excellent fabric to work with, both in the creation and manufacture of simple or more elaborate clothes, as in the creation of pieces for curtains, sofas, upholstery, etc. Within this wide range of crepe types and nomenclatures, there are two main categories: light crepe and full-bodied crepe.

The light Crepe

In this category, there are fabrics with fluid, light and more delicate trim, such as Bubble types (“bubble” in Portuguese), which have small balls in their texture, being found in matte versions, with dry tones, or satin, as per example the Bubble Satin crepe, which is more silky and shiny. Nuage, on the other hand, despite being much lighter, has more textured touches, as it has micro-fissures that give it a more stylish and shiny appearance.

And finally, the Lorraine crepe, which is a synthetic version of the silk type, being absolutely smooth and with a slightly satiny shine. These are just a few examples of light crepes that can be used for your creations!

The full-bodied crepe

This type of fabric is the darling of stylists, when it comes to creating different pieces for casual-chic and party fashion, as it is full-bodied and has variations in its wefts, such as polyester, elastane, and mixtures of organic and synthetic threads. We can mention the types of Crepe Dior, Crepe Vogue, Crepe Pasquale, and Crepe Valentino.

Both Vogue and Dior have a slightly higher price, as they are evaluated in the textile market as the noblest category within synthetic fabrics. Both Dior and Vogue have malleability and movement with options that are both shiny, more sparkling, and more satiny, being silkier and with a weight that provides flawless body trim.
